According to data cited by Fleet News, the South West has consistently faced some of England’s highest delivery driver vacancy rates, with Bristol identified as one of the cities most affected by shortfalls in logistics roles. TRS Training notes that demand for qualified Category C drivers remains high across local distribution, construction, and refuse collection sectors in the Bristol area.
The five-day course includes four hours of training each morning, from 8 am to 12 pm, on days one to four, with the test taking place on day five. Sessions cover daily vehicle safety checks, cockpit familiarisation, road positioning, junctions and roundabouts, hazard perception, reversing and manoeuvring, and driving on urban, rural and motorway roads.
Assessment follows the DVSA format, including vehicle safety questions, the Module 3a reversing exercise and the Module 3b on-road test with a DVSA examiner. Practical tests are booked only once the instructor judges a learner ready, and Bristol learners take their test at the Newport LGV test centre.

TRS Training’s Bristol school is based at Western Approach Distribution Park in Avonmouth, close to the M4, M5, and M49 and served by public transport. Instructor Barry Powell brings over 15 years of industry experience and delivers the course in a DAF rigid truck. Prospective learners can arrange a no-obligation site visit to see the vehicles and ask questions before enrolling.
Applicants need a full UK Category B licence, an HGV provisional licence and passes in the Part 1a multiple-choice and Part 1b hazard perception theory tests. Those still at this stage can use the HGV Starter Package, priced at £195, for support with both steps.
The course costs £1,635, including VAT and DVSA test fees, with payment by card, bank transfer or interest-free PayPal instalments. Employer-sponsored learners may qualify for apprenticeship funding, and HGV Skills Bootcamp places may be offered when funding is available.
After qualifying, drivers can progress to Category CE training, ADR hazardous goods certification or a Level 3 transport and warehouse operations supervisor apprenticeship.
