ClearPath Advisors Brings a Boutique Approach to Private Investigations Across South Carolina

Oct 27, 2026

The SLED-licensed firm combines statewide investigative services with personal attention and direct accountability.

-- ClearPath Advisors, a South Carolina-based boutique private investigative firm licensed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), provides investigative services across all 46 counties. Serving attorneys, individuals and families, businesses, crime victims, and community organizations, the firm combines statewide reach with the personal attention and direct accountability of a boutique practice. ClearPath Advisors is a proud member of the South Carolina Association of Legal Investigators (SCALI), reflecting the firm’s commitment to ethical conduct, professional development, and investigative excellence. The firm complements its investigative practice with specialized community supervision consulting and reentry education and guidance.

“ClearPath was built to provide attentive, dependable investigative support from a South Carolina-based team that stays personally involved in the work,” said Christian Aulbach, Founder and Principal Advisor of ClearPath Advisors.

A Statewide Firm With Local Accountability

Private investigations are at the center of ClearPath Advisors’ work. Services include background investigations, surveillance, people location, witness identification and interviews, and detailed review of case files, records, and evidence.

From the initial consultation through the final report, clients have direct access to the South Carolina-based team conducting the investigation, reviewing information, and preparing the findings. That continuity supports clear communication, consistent attention to detail, and direct accountability.

“A client should know who is responsible for their investigation,” Aulbach said. “At ClearPath, our own team handles the work from beginning to end. We do not outsource investigations or send them to third-party contractors.”

Experience in Investigations and Administrative Hearings

ClearPath’s approach draws on founder Christian Aulbach’s experience spanning more than a decade in state law enforcement, community supervision, and administrative hearings. A 2010 graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City, Aulbach earned a bachelor’s degree in International Criminal Justice before joining the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS). He began his career supervising traditional and specialized caseloads, gaining firsthand experience in assessing risk, monitoring compliance, investigating alleged violations, and helping individuals navigate their supervision requirements.

Aulbach also oversaw the department’s Charleston County Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitive Apprehension Program, coordinating investigations nationwide with local, state, and federal agencies. In 2018, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office recognized his efforts with a Special Recognition Award. He served on a strategic planning committee that developed training for new law enforcement recruits and later served as a guest instructor at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

As an administrative hearings officer for the State of South Carolina, Aulbach presided over thousands of preliminary and final violation hearings, ensuring individuals were afforded due process and preparing written findings for Circuit Court judges and the South Carolina Board of Paroles and Pardons. That work required careful evaluation of evidence, conflicting accounts, and the documentation supporting alleged violations.

“Experience teaches you to ask the right questions. Judgment requires the discipline to follow the facts and the integrity to reconsider your conclusions when the evidence demands it,” Aulbach said. “When someone’s freedom or future is at stake, assumptions are not enough. That responsibility shaped my career, and it defines our work at ClearPath.”

Community Supervision and Reentry Guidance

Beyond private investigations, ClearPath provides specialized community supervision consulting and reentry education and guidance for attorneys, community organizations, and individuals and families navigating probation, parole, and other forms of supervision.

Drawing on Aulbach’s experience in supervision and administrative hearings, the firm helps attorneys review alleged violations, examine case documentation, and assess agency policies, procedures, and actions. ClearPath also assists community organizations with staff training and program development to support participants’ successful completion of supervision.

For individuals and families, the firm explains supervision requirements, identifies community resources—including substance use treatment and mental health services—and helps clients prepare for supervision-related proceedings in collaboration with their attorney.

“After years working within the supervision system, I’ve seen how difficult it can be to meet expectations without clear guidance and access to the right resources,” Aulbach said. “Understanding supervision conditions is essential, but access to treatment and community support can be just as critical. We help individuals and families understand their responsibilities, identify resources, and build a practical path forward.”

Clear Findings That Support Informed Decisions

ClearPath’s investigative reporting emphasizes verified facts, relevant context, and clearly identified gaps. Reports distinguish what has been established from what remains uncertain, explain the basis for findings, and identify questions that may warrant further investigation. This approach helps attorneys, individuals and families, businesses, and crime victims assess the information and determine their next steps.

“A report is only as strong as the work behind it,” Aulbach said. “Our clients deserve findings grounded in facts, a clear explanation of how we reached them, and an honest account of what remains unresolved.”
