NatPat Announces DEET-Free Kids' BuzzPatch Bundles Amid Severe Mosquito Season

Sep 17, 2026

NatPat announces expanded BuzzPatch bundle options as the CDC reports the most severe early-season West Nile virus activity in more than two decades, positioning its DEET-free clothing patches as a lower-risk complement to EPA-registered repellent.

-- MELBOURNE, Australia, September 10, 2026 - NatPat has announced new BuzzPatch bundle options for families, featuring multi-packs of its DEET-free, clothing-worn mosquito repellent stickers to provide greater convenience for households spending time outdoors. The announcement comes as U.S. health officials continue to monitor an active West Nile virus season.

The announcement follows reports from U.S. public health officials of an unusually active mosquito season. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), provisional surveillance data recorded 504 West Nile virus cases across 40 states as of September 8, 2026. Most people infected experience mild symptoms, but severe cases can affect the central nervous system and cause inflammation of the brain. The CDC recommends using EPA-registered insect repellents, particularly in areas where West Nile virus activity has been identified.

NatPat says BuzzPatch is intended as a complementary option for everyday, lower-risk outdoor activities rather than a replacement for EPA-registered repellents in higher-risk settings. Because DEET is not recommended for infants under two months of age, the CDC advises reducing mosquito exposure by covering infant carriers and strollers with mosquito netting.

BuzzPatch stickers attach to clothing rather than skin and contain citronella essential oil, with each patch providing up to eight hours of use under typical conditions. The company recommends BuzzPatch for lower-exposure situations, while following public health guidance and using EPA-registered repellents where mosquito-borne disease risk is elevated.

"We built BuzzPatch because we knew from our own experience that plenty of everyday moments with kids, like backyard play or the walk to school, don't necessarily call for a chemical repellent applied to the skin, but families still want an extra layer of protection," said Michael Jankie, Co-founder and CEO of NatPat. "With the current increase in mosquito numbers, we're encouraging people to follow CDC guidance and use our patches alongside an EPA-registered repellent for more comprehensive protection when appropriate."
